How do you celebrate Christmas in the height of a pandemic? Let's have a look how it's done at Cult Beauty.

Brief

This Christmas (bloody well) deserves more beauty. Keen to celebrate the moments and rituals we've all missed during the pandemic, Cult Beauty focused on delivering a Christmas like any other - this holiday season we are giving more joy and celebrations, more beauty, more presents, more of everything!

Imagery

To give the images a golden glow of more spirit, a dreamy dazed feeling was used with blurred edges, tasteful sparkles. Backgrounds were chosen in line with the colour palette as seen further down this page.

 

To further represent Cult Beauty's larger vision for beauty for everyone, we used a diverse group of models from all ages.

Colour Palette

The colour palette is grounded in Christmas favourite colour red, but an alarming red that literally screams "give me more".

Secondary shades of navy, pearlescent, blush pink and off white supported the red, bringing the campaign together with luxury.

Illustration

To support the campaign, Cult Beauty hired illustrator Shira Barzilay to handdraw a pattern. The pattern itself is a modern take on the multiple faces in beauty.

Lockup

To accompany the illustration, a handdrawn lookup for "More" was created to be used throughout the entire Christmas campaign, allowing our customers to know whenever More was used - there were good deals to be made!

Magazine

In the spirit of more, a free magazine was added to every order during the Christmas period to further give tips and tricks, inspiration, exclusive interviews with beauty founders and much more.

Pulling from the more lockup, a lot of the titles were created in a similar handwritten style while the rest of typography was kept to Cult Beauty's regular standard.

Advent Calendar

Every year Cult Beauty design an advent calendar with beauty buys too good to pass up on.

​

To tie in with the Christmas campaign, a dust pink with a a red version of the illustration overlayed became this year's design.

Video

Due to time constraints, old footage was used to create videos for social media, updated with the Christmas colours and sparkles.

​

Videos were cut down, resized and rearranged in six different ways to respond best with the social media platforms they were used on.

Beauty Boxes

Making it easier for customers to find gifts for everyone on their Christmas list at a reasonable price, Cult beauty created boxes with the more messaging top of mind.

​

The design combined the Christmas colours, showcasing the variety of ways the illustrations and colours were executed throughout the campaign - but also giving each box its unique style.

Baubles

For a cheaper price point at £25, a bauble and cracker filled with goodies from great brands were created. The design once again using the illustration and Christmas colours, with the added luxury of a pearlescent shimmer.

Results

A strong launch of the Christmas campaign was made with the help of colours which set Cult Beauty apart from its competitors, amazing inhouse imagery and custom-made illustrations.

​

The launch of the advent calendar resulted in 220% more traffic to site than previous day and the advent calendar itself sold out in just 58 minutes.

​

From the boxes, more glow was the best seller, selling out after 24 hours, with more indulgence selling out the day after.
